Project 7 - Benefits of Blogging

Blogs are an easy way to share brief ideas with your teacher and classmates. In this project, you are going to share what you know about validating websites as credible.

By credible, I mean you trust the website to provide accurate and factual information. This is a critical part of any research project because there are many websites that contain peoples' opinions, inaccurate information, and sometimes outright lies.

Review the list of bogus websites on the DigLit7 wiki.  Review one or more of them and post a comment with three reasons how you identified the website as not credible.  The reasons must be unique and not already used by another student.

  1. Hi! This is Samantha Ehlers. Here are my tips:
    1) Check the date. Websites are often updated. If the last update was many years ago, the website is FAKE.
    2) If the site is for a charity or organization, it should have a link for donations. If it does not have any way to donate, it is FAKE.
    I hope this helps!

  2. Hi!!!!!! Its Meg and I found these 2 clues to show if a website is fake or not.
    1. If the website tells you to do something and something will happen that could NEVER happen in real life. An example is if they say to put food out and a tree octopus will get it that is NOT possible.
    2. If the website tells you that it is not on the endangered species list than it must not be real because the goverment would put it on the list.

  4. My first reason that the treeoctopus is a fake website because they compare it to king kong and king kong isn't real. My second reason is that the treeoctopus isn't on the endangered species list.

1.) if the website doesn't say who made it then it's probs not real, like in Haggis Hunt
2.) then another one, if you can only see about one or two pictures on the website, it's not real because the person just needed to get it done, and thought people wouldn't notice

    thanks yalllllllll <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3!!!!!!!!!!

  12. Hi it is Owen Bass, these are reasons of how to find a fake website.
1.) First if they mention things like IACUC committee and you look it up and it is not there, it is probably fake.
2.) second if you open a link from the webpage and it does not load and say's "webpage not found" then it is fake

  13. I googled Patrick Boone a guy who researched cats according to the Feline Reaction site. He was listed in the bibliography. When I googled him, he didn't exist. When I googled the link it sent me to a Hoax Website.

    1) Google the topic on Hoax websites.
    2) Look up researchers names from the bibliography to see if their research can be found
